Recording from VCR onto Tivo, use just as a DVR, don't want to connect to tuner or ST

I have a Tivo2 Model TCD540140 and want to use it strictly as a DVR recording some of my tapes. I started by erasing everything on the drive to start fresh with recording via the video and audio inputs. When I start up, I am locked in a continuous loop of menus wanting me to go on line and connect by phone. I all I want to do is push the record button to start and stop recording made from the external VCR.

Is there a solution?

Nope. No way to do that. Without an active TiVo subscription, your 540140 is a boat anchor. It won't do anything.
