Following a recent extended power failure, when I restarted my TiVo there was a high pitched steady noise coming from the TiVo. I assumed it was from the hard drive. I was able to stop it by moving the box around a little bit and gently tapping and squeezing it. This morning I heard it again, and was able to stop it the same way. Has anyone else experienced this? And does anyone have any ideas about the cause. Perhaps it is a warning of an impending mechanical hard drive failure! It is a 3 year old TiVo Premiere (R74632).

No, I'm not. I'll open the box and check it out and oil the fan. Thanks, forgot about there being a fan, too.Comment

You don't even really have to open the unit - just stick a Q-tip in the fan grate to stop it, and see if the sound stops.Been here a long time . . .Comment
