  • TiVo Premier HD flickering

I have a pretty new TiVo HD Premier that is starting to stutter/skip when watching recorded shows. It seems to only occur when watching recordings that were recorded two at the same time. In other words, at 9:00 PM I recorded a show on ABC and at the same time I recorded a show on NBC.

Perhaps i misunderstood what dual tuner recording is? Shouldn't I be able to record two shows at the same time?

What could be causing this? Loose connections? Bad coax cable? Need better cable? I ran a kick start HD test and that is not the issue.

Yes, you can record two shows at one time on this unit.

Is the 'flickering' in the recordings, so that when you watch a recording at any time, you see it?

Yes, it is. I seem to only notice it on recordings that have have been recorded two at the same time.

If you play back a show and it's exactly the same the next time, that suggests that it could be recording the problems, meaning it might be due to the quality of the cable line or the CableCARD. You might want to have the cable company come out and check the signal strength and swap the CableCARD.

Also, on the kickstart tests, did you run the overnight tests?
        Been here a long time . . .

Regarding the Kickstart test I ran the first S.M.A.R.T. test which took about 5 hours. What is the difference between that test and the Overnight test?

The SMART should take less than 5 minutes. It just checks the diagnostics on the drive, but doesn't test the drive surface itself, which the overnight does.

Well now I am confused because I thought I selected the S.M.A.R.T test but if it takes only 5 minutes than I must have somehow run the Overnight because it ran 5-6 hours at least.

You might to run it again, but your problem doesn't seem drive-related to me if the issue is in the recordings. But you should also be able to see it in live TV if you are recording one, watching another or recording two while watching one live.
