  • Series 3 question - constantly blinking green light and no boot up

Any ideas on what to check? This is a Series 3 HD XL Tivo - all stock and was working fine. Apparently, someone knocked the power cable out of it and when I plugged it back in, I get a rapid flashing on the green led on the front panel and it never boots - nothing on the screen and pulling power doesn't help. Seems like the fan is spinning and have tried it without any accessories - no luck.

Anyone know what a constantly blinking green light means? I searched the forums and couldn't find anything.

I opened up the unit tonight and the power supply looks okay. No leaking caps.

As a general rule, a blinking light in HD TiVos is not something that is fixable, unfortunately.

EDIT: We can now fix this problem! Please see this blog post:

Thanks Jeff... that was the conclusion I was drawing doing some additional research. Faulty motherboard? From what I can tell, the blinking green light means it is trying to start up, but it never gets to POST where you could kickstart it or something like that. It just is bad to lose all of the programming....

      Chris.

Right - something faulty on the motherboard that we haven't been able to isolate.
        Been here a long time . . .

Thanks Michael. I went with the Tivo replacement to keep my service plan. They gave me a refurbished Series 4 XL ("1000 hour") which I think is the first generation of the Premier/series 4 units. If they were a bit more liberal with transferring activations, I would have purchased a second gen/XL Premier from you guys. I have used you all before for parts for my series 2.

Thanks for the help from you both. The series 3 goes back in their shipping carton on Monday.

          Cheers-

          Chris.
