  • Opinions needed--worth getting TiVo again?

Hi all--We have the same problem as a bunch of people encountered--Tivo getting stuck on the powering up screen. We've been owners since the original Series 1, gave that away and got the Series 3 when we got a HDTV. So, I think we've had the S3 for about 3-4 years and it seems that the problem is with the hard drive.

Spoke to Tivo and they're offering us a good deal on a new Premiere and $200 for putting our lifetime service on the new unit.

Question is--would you do it? We don't watch that much of network tv anymore and thinking about cancelling cable tv totally. You can get tv via the stations themselves with a laptop or iPhone connection. Now a new service called "Aereo" is rolling out which offers the networks plus DVR functionality in the cloud. We already get Netflix, Hulu, etc. via our internet enabled DVD player.

    What would you do?

With lifetime service on the TiVo, I'd repair it. The S3 will get off-air stations; the Premiere won't. And if you're looking to cut cable, the cheapest TV is off-air TV.
