  • DIY Premiere HD Replace ???

New to forum, new to TiVo (3months) and and thanks for the ideas and answers I've seen so far. Very helpful for my long term use and appreciation of TiVo system.

I have two Premiere in my home and hard drive appears to have failed on one unit. I also have a third Series 3, I know I cannot use as OS template.

Can I make an image of the working Premier hard drive, transfer the image to new replacement hard drive ? From reading messages and topics, I expect I will have to wipe user data clean and allow for complete restore on the repaired unit to allow motherboard to hard drive serialization.

I have PC and laptop running Ubuntu, so access to Linux command structure is readily available.

Since original and failed drive is 320GB, if I replace with readily available 500GB device, will I have any issues or work arounds to worry about ?

You could do a DD, but that's about it. The publicly available tools haven't been updated in years, so Premieres aren't supported.

Thanks for additional info. Reading between the lines, if I want to do DIY OS/Hard Drive maintenance, upgrades etc, Series 3 is available, but Premiere is not.

And pardon my ignorance, it was not searchable, what is DD ?
