  • Series 1 Issue with Even transponders

I just finished installing my second hard drive since the original hard drive went out. Everything was fine prior to drive installation...but now I can't receive the right side signal. All even transponders can't be found OR are intermittent at best (if I switch the different incoming cables on my wide-range multi-switch).

I bought my Hughes TIVO (GCXBOT/D) back in 1999. I bought the lifetime TIVO. I obviously want this machine to continue functioning.

    I'm moderately technical.

I've tested it in multiple locations in the house with same result (other DTV boxes are getting all transponders). I thought of getting another multiswitch to test whether something is sketchy there (specific to getting strong and consistent signal to my TIVO as opposed to other units)...but I'm thinking the problem is something to do with the TIVO box.

Outside of sending my unit to Weeknees w/ the blanket cost fix, I'd like to be sure that I haven't done all that I can with less costly options.

    I appreciate any thoughts. Thanks.

The drive install is likely unrelated to the satellite problems. However, if you had a drive failure, it's possible that whatever killed the drive (power event?) also damaged the DVR's satellite tuner. It sounds like your issue isn't related to your satellite lines given that your other units aren't having similar issues.

Gotcha. So Power supply is unlikely culprit as well? I hear that it can mess with functionality of everything...so it's always suspect. However...no bulging capacitors that I can see.

Replacing tuners - is that something I can do or something best left to experts? Is it weird that both tuners would go out and have the same issue (right side not detected) or is that normal?

I really appreciate your quick, initial response. Thanks.

If you have another model of the same type (GXCEBOT, DSR6000, SAT T60), then you can try swapping power supplies to see if the problem follows the power supply, but I'm guessing that's not the problem.

the tuner is not a user-replaceable part. Sorry.
