  • Sent Bad HDD

I just purchased a Hard Drive from WeaKnees for a DRT-800 TiVo. The hard drive on it was causing skips during viewing. So I ordered a HDD pre-programmed to make the swap nice and simple. I opened the unit with the standard precausions and swapped in the new Hard Drive. I plugged everything back in (after putting the case and everything back on), and started up the TiVo.

The unit now sits on "Welcome Powering Up". I was wondering who do I speak with and figure out getting my another hard drive or having the first one sent back as defective and just living on my old hard drive?

I did notice the Jumper for the HDD was in cable select position in the package. During the installation I double checked the paperwork, and there was no mention to change jumpers. I left it the way it was.

As I was testing possible fixes, I changed the jumper to MASTER, rather than Cable Select. It appears to be booting now. Still on going testing to confirm if that was issue or not.

Soon as I changed it back to Cable Select it wouldn't boot again. That appeared to be the issue, you might want to make note of it in the future to document that in the instructions or check the jumper position on the product. Sorry to jump to think the hard drive might have been bad.

As long as the IDE cable was in properly, the jumper position should work fine on Cable Select.

In any event, glad it's working now. Tell us if you find any problems.
      Been here a long time . . .
