    Hello.

    I am having a problem with a DirecTivo unit that I had bought from you (about) 2.5 years ago.

    The unit had a 2 hard drives giving me about 200 or 250 hours of recording.

    Since the time of the recording I have been recording, viewing and deleting up until yesterday (3/4/2007). Yesterday around 6:30 pm EST, I decided to just clear and delete everything and restart fresh. It is right now 2:23 pm EST , Sunday (3/5/2007) and my machine still reads on the TV "Clearing and Deleting Everything. This may take up to an Hour. Do not unplug the power."

    My questin is: Does it normally take that long?

    Shall I continue to wait?

    Is it because I have 2 hard drives totaling well over 200 GB's?

    Do I need to send this in for Repair? (I kinda hope not)

    Anyone experience or heard anyone have this problem before?

    It could take 24 to 48 hours with larger drives, but those drives aren't too huge. Probably, you have a failing drive at this point. Were you having problems that prompted you to try the C&D?

      Yes, I was having the problem of some pausing. It would happen for just a second or two every now and then with no real pattern of consistency of when it will happen. Something like this happened to me a few months ago with another (Hughes) DirecTivo unit of mine. I called DirecTV for support and they suggested to clear and delete everything. I did exactly that and the problems of "pausing" went away. Everything has been fine with that unit ever since. So, I thought if I do the same exact thing (Clear and Delete) with this DirecTivo unit everything will be fine.

      24-48 hours? Well right now 2:44 pm and it's approaching the 48 hour mark. Ever since I started a Clear and Delete, I haven't touched the unit at all.

        OK - then the pausing and this issue are pretty much both related to a failing (or really, failed) hard drive. The fastest way to get up and running is to get a replace kit for your unit from here:
