My mother Talked with several support people and everyone said the same thing. Bad hard drive. So she ordered an upgrade hard drive from Weeknees and I put it in yesterday.
The unit does 1 of 2 things.
It powers up and shows the "Welcome. Powering up." screen and hangs there or when powered up it shows a black screen with lots of white dashes flashing across the screen and hangs like that.
When the black screen appears the hard drive does not seem to be spinning up.
When the welcome screen is displayed the hard drive can be heard spinning up.
The Tivo does the same thing with the old 80 Gig or the new 500 Gig drive installed.
I have visually inspected the power supply and it looks new. No burnt or swollen/burst capacitors.
We may be going the flat fee repair as she has the lifetime service from Tivo. But in the meantime if anyone has ideas or suggestions I'm open to them.
Edit: I forgot to mention that the green light in the front of the Tivo lights up when the unit boots to the "Welcome. Powering up." screen but there is no green light Tivo boots to the black screen.
