  • TiVO HD intermittent problems

    Hi,
I have a TiVo HD unit that has been experiencing some problems lately.
The unit is not one I use much, so I'm not sure how frequently these problems are occurring, but here's what's going on.
On three occasions I've found the TiVo to be unresponsive. On the first occasion, I noticed that the front panel displayed the time and 4 colored lights were light. When I turned on the TV, there was no signal coming from the TiVo. I unplugged it and re-plugged it in and it booted up fine and appeared to be working.
The second time, I seem to recall that the front display was blank and as before there was no signal to the TV. Again, I unplugged it and re-plugged it in and it seemed to be working.
The most recent time, the front display had the incorrect time and there was still no signal to the TV. Again, rebooting seemed to work, but now I'm skeptical how long it has been working post-reboot as it indicated the last time it connected to TiVo was about 10 days ago. I'm going to be monitoring more closely, but was wondering if anyone had some thoughts as to what may be going on. I think the issue may be larger than the hard drive.
    Your thoughts are appreciated.
    Thanks,
    -Dan

Sounds like a bad drive to me, but you can get a pretty good diagnosis from the TiVo itself with a kickstart 54:

I ran the SMART and overnight tests and both came back OK. Any other thoughts?

Could be a lot of things then - it may be software corruption.

But you might give you power supply a check also - see these pics:

Power supply looked fine too. Perhaps it's an HDMI output issue.

OK - so try running via component for a while and see what you get.
