In November my TiVo HD started showing signs of a bad drive. It had the original stock internal drive and a 500 GB external which had worked successfully for several years. The problem turned out to be with the external, and since my TiVo is mounted very intricately into a server rack and would have taken hours to extract, upgrade and reinstall, I wimped out and bought a new 1TB external.
This weekend, I started getting Error 86 messages and with the external drive being only a few months old (and the internal one being 4 1/2 years old) I'm assuming it's the internal one. I've thus far been unable to get Kickstart 54 to run. 57 and 58 will run but they loop back to a restart and then hang.
If I assume it's the internal drive failing, my question is, which of the internal drive replacements will still work with my 1TB external. I'd sort of hate to give it up since it's only a few months old, but I also know the external units have been failure prone, so part of me says as long as I've got the internal drive out I should replace it with the largest I can and forget the external drive.
Any insights are, as always, much appreciated!
