    Series 3 with failed drive.

    I happen to have a few 500gb drives sitting around though, so I already have one in place ready to go, BUT.....

    what needs to be done to the "new" drive before I power the Tivo up? Format? Anything copied onto it? The old one is totally dead and I don't really care about copying it anyway, but I do want the new drive to function in the "new like" Tivo that is going to be the end result of this.

    Yes - it needs the full TiVo OS on it for your exact model. We can format your drive:
