  • Toshiba RS-TX20 dead?

My two year old TX20 is showing only 2 led's constantly lit. No video to tv. Had been rebooting spontaneously for several monts. How do i know if the drive is bad? How do I replace it? Can on use any HD or does it need to be specially prepped??
I am pretty handy with tools so I would like to attempt a fix before canning this $500 plus box which i find very handy, especially with the built in dvd burner.
    Any help appreciated.

If you aren't getting any video output at all, no 'welcome powering up' screen or anything else, it's likely that you have a bad power supply.

call or email us if you would like to have the power supply replaced.

      RS-TX20 woes

Thanks for the reply. i am getting a grey tv screen (which would be blue with no signal) so something is coming out, and the two big led's are illuminated.
As i said in my previous post, the machine was spontaneously rebooting for a few months, with the occasional gee screen of 'major problem'. Always was able to fix by unplugging and reconnecting power, sometimes sticking at the startup scren. But now nothing except the grey and two led's. I can hear humming from inside the box so there is definitely power going somewhere.
Do you think I might be a candidate for drive replacement?

Actually, yes, if you get a grey screen, you should try a hard drive first:
