  • Moved with Tivo, DirecTv will not reactivate !!!

Original Southern California Tivo subscriber since August 2003. Moved to Seattle one month ago, and DirecTv will not reactivate Tivo DVR, per company policy. They're using this as an excuse to weed out the box and force people to buy their version.

Has anybody had this problem? Fought this battle and won?

We had to raise the white flag and we aren't happy. DirecTv box is still inferior to Tivo.

If you have the same account, it should not be a problem. If you have a new account, then any DIRECTV TiVo without a receiver ID cannot be activated. There are other DIRECTV TiVos that do have RIDs and can be activated. What model do you have?

      Model #HDVR2

Thanks for the reply. We have Hughes Model # HDVR2. We moved on 2 separate dates (Aug and Dec) with the desire to not experience an interruption in the service. DirecTv forced us to establish a new account at our new location in WA in order to maintain existing service at our old location in CA.

The original account was closed rather than executing their special move package that they advertise on tv (even though that's what we asked for). Therefore we ended up with a new account.

Thanks for your support over the years with our Tivo. You've replaced the hard drive and the power supply to keep it alive longer. We'll miss Tivo !!!!!

Right - the HDVR2 has no RID, so it can only ever be reactivated on the same account, per DIRECTV's rules.

We have similar units with RIDs that can be activated here:

or you can wait for this unit:

        Been here a long time . . .
