  • Two hard drive failures in Series 3 - Power supply?

So, a year ago I got a replacement TivoHD for one that failed from Tivo. In December, I replaced the hard drive with a 1TB WD EARS drive. It lasted until April when it started rebooting. I tested it out with WD's tools and it came back fine. Eventually decide to replace it via warranty. Got the new drive back and installed it in July. Now this one is failing.

Does this mean I have a power supply problem, or is there another issue?

I'd recommend a UPS if you don't have one. See:

Unfortunately, that doesn't help my current problem. Do I yet again replace the hard drive? Or, do I determine that something else is the problem?

You are asking someone to determine whether you have a drive problem or some other problem. The only way to know is to test your drive...if it fails, then you have a drive problem. So the question is--WHY are your drives continuing to fail? One possibility is that you are using non-DVR drives. Another is that you don't have a UPS. Another is that you have some problem within your TiVo, such as a short. But unfortunately, there is no way for us to know.

If your drive is bad, I'd suggest a new, DVR drive and I'd suggest a UPS. Those things are within your control and can helpfully keep your TiVo running for a longer period of time.
