  • TiVo HD XL Blank Screen

Puzzling problem. Began with being stuck on Please Wait screen when trying to view Now Playing list of other TiVo.

That led me to unplug & replug. Have not had any picture since.

First I thought it was HD issue, as 1) the only light was solid green, 2) no response (yellow blink, etc.) to remote, 3) name of TiVo showed on second unit, but it said there weren't any programs. First this kept happening with every unplug/replug, even if I waited awhile before replugging.

After calling TiVo & becoming resigned to losing all my recordings, I noticed that now (besides the green light) the Fixed & 1080i were lit up. Also, the yellow light blinks when I press the remote. Most encouraging, however, I can view my Now Playing list & transfer programs with the other TiVo. This makes me hopeful it's not a HD problem. Sill the TV is blank.

Have checked the input, the HDMI cable, and the TV itself. I am stumped.

    Help would be most appreciated.

Can you try another TiVo output, like component or composite? I'd guess this is a dead HDMI connector.

Thank you very much for the quick response.

I will find another cable & try that. One new development: the TiVo is still recording new programs. This would rule out CableCard issues, right? Does this also rule out bad hard drive issues?

      Thanks again.

Well, I'd say "not necessarily" on both the card and drive fronts.

Try the cable and see what you find.

First, thanks again. I do appreciate your time & help.

Finally had help to swap the cable (on a high shelf and not easy to access backs of components), & guess what?!!! the able had come out! I have no idea how this could have happened, as the TiVo has not been touched, but that was obviously the issue. I guess it must have been loose and just pulling out the plug was enough to finish the job. I would have considered that possibility if the TiVo was anywhere it could have been bumped or moved, but didn't think of it due to the set up. I will in the future. Sorry to have bothered you, but happy that it was nothing more serious. Thanks again!
