The problem in a nutshell: My Tivo no longer gets updates when the digital tuner is plugged in.
The facts, as I best recall them:
I have a Series 4 Tivo purchased from Weaknees a year ago. When I initially got it, Time Warner cable had to install a digital tuner (Cisco STA 1520) in order to receive certain channels we purchased as part of an extra tier of programming, for instance Versus (ch. 267) or CSPAN-2 (ch. 202). After the DVR and digital tuner were set up, I left town for more than a month. I remotely programmed various shows through my laptop and all was fine. The 2010 Tour de France (on Versus) recorded just fine. The Tivo received regular and complete content updates during my time away.
At some point, let’s say 6 months ago, the Tivo stopped updating when the digital tuner was plugged in. If I recall correctly, I was seeing a “gateway not found” message, in the System Information menu. This was no big deal since at the time I had not been watching any of the channels like Versus that are only received with the tuner plugged in. So I unplugged the tuner.
Here is the dilemma. I am leaving town for a month in late June. I plan to leave the Tivo plugged in and set up remote recording, like last year. But I need the digital tuner plugged in too, so that I can record stuff like the Tour on Versus. However, if the tuner is plugged in, the Tivo will not update and my content will run out roughly two weeks after I leave. So I'll be unable to record most of the Tour.
How can I resolve this update issue? Can I do it myself? Does TW cable need to come out to the house? Did they screw up and not install the tuner properly the first time? Or is it something else? Anyone out there been through the same problem? I’m about ready to throw my hands up, dump the cable, and call Directv. But I figure I’ll try this forum first.
I appreciate any help. Thanks.
