  • Drive swapping for TCD540080?

    You've probably seen this question before with different wording, but the search engine did not show the answer using typical search terms.

    Can the hard drive for a TCD540080 with monthly subscription be taken out to replace the bad drive in a TCD540080 with lifetime subscription? The concern is about doing damage to the EEPROM. Some message boards say that some Tivos can rewrite their own EEPROMs, and I would not want to provoke the Tivo into doing that. Thank you for your advice!

    Sure - you can move that drive without motherboard damage.

    When you boot it, you'll see a hardware error #51. To deal with that, see this info:
