  • swapping weaknees hard drive to New Tivo?

I have a Tivo Series 3 HD which I upgraded with a weaknees HDD a couple years ago... I am now going to purchase a new Tivo Premiere XL. is it possible to pull the weaknees hard drive out of the old series 3 and put it directly in to the Tivo Premiere?. that would be Ideal so I could keep all the shows I have on the Series 3, then I could put the blank HDD from the Premiere into an ESATA plug in converter and plug that in as an external drive?.. does anyone know if the Series 3 HDD would be compatible with the new Premiere?

    Thanks.

Nope - no way to do that.

You can transfer the shows from one to the other across a network, assuming both units are on the same TiVo.com account.

To use the drive in the Premiere, we'd need to reformat it with the right software:

You can use Tivo Desktop to copy all the shows to a computer (think very large hard drive NTFS partition), and then copy them from the computer to the new machine.

This will leave your S3 intact to continue using or to sell.

Also, you should do a lot more research about using external drives with Tivo before definitely deciding to use one.

I totally agree on the external issue, especially the TiVo "qualified" ones which seem to have just endless problems.
