  • Problem with my R-10

I have an R-10 upgraded with a 320Gb drive from Weaknees. The other day I turned on the TV to find it frozen and unresponsive. I powered off and on and got the "Searching for signal on input 2" message. I checked the satellite signal strength and indeed input 2 had no signal. I swapped satellite inputs and input 2 still showed no signal. I tried redoing guided setup and more reboots, but input 2 seems to be dead.

Last night I was noticing that when I fast-forward (using the 1st of the three arrows), the action doesn't speed up and stay fast. It will sometimes cycle between fast for a few seconds, then slow down to normal, then speed up again. Other times it will remain at normal speed, and then suddenly skip ahead to "catch up", then resume normal speed, all while remaining in fast-forward mode with the sound off.

My first question is, does this sound like a drive problem or something else?

Second, I have another R-10 that is unused that I could activate with a new Access Card. If I transplanted the 320Gb drive to the other R-10 and did the "Clear All" function (or whatever it's called that initializes a new drive), will I lose all the programs on the 320Gb drive?

Third, what is DirecTV's latest standard-def DVR, and would it be a good or bad idea to switch to that instead? I'm still a few years away from being able to upgrade to HDTV.

Thanks for your help. I'd especially appreciate it if the Weaknees guys can chime in.

I'd try the red reset button inside the access card door to see if that fixes the SAT 2 issue.

    1 - Sounds like a drive.

2 - Should work if the drive is OK, but yes, you'll lose all programs.

3 - R22 - not even close to as nice as your R10.

The red button did it. It restored Sat Input 2 AND fixed the fast-forward misbehavior. Thank you!

But why did the red button work when pulling the plug didn't? What does the reset button do that's different?

The red button does some type of deeper reset. I don't know the technical details, but it's there for a reason.
