  • HR10-250 upgraded 2nd drive failed

I have an upgraded HR10-250 with two drives in it. The primary drive is a Maxtor Quickview 300GB and the secondary drive is a WD Caviar 250GB.

    The WD is confirmed dead...

I understand that the programs are stored across both drives and the primary drive stores the "Tivo" information. Do I just need to replace the 250GB drive and I am good to go or is there more to it. I bought the unit used with the upgrade.

Can I go bigger on the replacement and if so, how large can I go?

    Recommendations?

    Thanks.

You have to replace both drives with one or two new drives--up to you.

We have drive options for this unit here:

I can understand the replace 1 for 2 but why the 2 for 2? I was hoping to just replace the failed drive.

If you want the capacity of two drives, you have to replace 2 for 2...but you can't just replace 1 of two drives and continue using the old one with a new one. The two drives in your TiVo now are a married pair.
