Is cable card necessary?

With Comcast is it possible to use TIVO without the cable cards if I just subscribe to basic and digital with no premium channels? They charge $16.00 per card here in Charleston, SC and the cards continually go bad. Thanks.

$16 per card per month, or once? Per month, that's amazing.

Analog would work without a card, but digital wouldn't.

Been here a long time . . .

Thanks for the quick reply! Yes, per month. The problem is ComCast like most carriers is always moving channels to digital.
