    DRT800 constant reboot

    Hi all,

    My sister has a DRT-800 that wont get past the welcome screen or the just a few minutes more.

    I have several units and have much experience with TiVo drive upgrades etc. I tried scanning the hard drive with a PC. The SMART didn't detect a problem so I checked the drive (a Maxtor) for errors with MaxBlast. That tested okay.

    I "caked" another drive, just in case but it didn't work either.

    I tried swapping the IDE cable, the DVD burner and power supply too. No joy.

    Is there anything else to try? Will this be the motherboard? She'd rather not lose the lifetime sub...

    Try disconnecting the DVD burner by removing the IDE cable from the motherboard that leads to it, and also the power cable from the DVD burner itself. See if that helps.

      Actually, I tried that too....

      Maybe I should send it for flat rate repair. It certainly seems as though I've tried everything. How do you handle Canadian customers? Are there extra shipping costs?

      I may be interested in another DRT400/800 or even an HD unit. Do any of the subscription services (ie Amazon or Netflix) work in Canada? We don't have cablecards up here, so this would be strictly for OTA programming. I should be able to transfer from my S2 units, I would guess.

        The flat rate repair probably makes sense, since it has lifetime service. Yes, there is an additional shipping charge. You'll see it in the cart after you enter your address info, and there are a few options to choose from.

        These are really the only TiVo left that supports analog antenna signals in Canada, so they're great for Canadian users. You can transfer, but as far as I know, Amazon and Netflix are US-only.
