I have a Tivo Series 2 Model TCD 2400 8A that I haven't used for a while because I moved into a place that had DVR's in the unit supplied by the owner. I'm going to be moving soon and want to start using my Tivo DVR again.
Prior to disconnecting, the unit was working fine, but it was starting to make a lot of loud noises which, from past experience, sounded like a mechanical fan problem (maybe a power supply), but it recorded and played the recordings fine.
I called Tivo and they wanted $149 to replace with a refurbished unit, and $199 to transfer the lifetime subscription. They actually suggested I contact WeaKnees to see about repairs and said if I get it repaired, the unit would still work with the subscription I purchased, but that it would void the warranty on the unit (which is expired anyway).
Two questions -
1) Does this problem sound repairable?
2) Will Tivo still honor the lifetime subscription?
Like I said, I haven't used this in about 18 months and don't want to spend money on it's repair if I'm going to have other issues with getting it up and running again.
Any advice is greatly appreciated,
Rooger
