  • Series 2 Wireless Disconnects

I have a TiVo Series 2 (TCD240080) with a TiVo wireless adapter that keeps dropping off the network after a hour or two. The Network Connection status says no wireless adapter detected. Unplugging the adapter will not force it to be redetected. I can restart and it redetects and runs for an hour or two.

I tried replacing the wireless adapter with a new TiVo wireless adapter. I also tried swapping out the hard drive with another (albeit just as old hard drive) and did a full erase and run through Guided Setup. The other two TiVos on the same network do not drop off the network even though they are further away.

Could the USB ports be going bad? Overheating? Power supply? Any other suggestions?

Did you try this in another location (home), to confirm that it's not a network issue? If the problem persists on another person's network, then it is more likely your TiVo and it is something that we can repair. But it's not a common problem with TiVos, which is why I suggest you try elsewhere first.

      Seems a Little More Stable

I may have spoke too soon. The TiVo seems to have stabilized since I replaced the hard drive.

Does the hard drive have store state information on the network adapter?

No, but if you have a bad drive, any communication between the TiVo and drive, even for networking, can be impacted. Typically though, a bad drive would have symptoms different from the ones you experienced.
