  • hard drive swap

    OK, here's the deal:
I have a standard TiVo 2 with a hard drive on it's last legs.

In my basement, in a box I have a DirectTV TiVo unit with a working hard drive.

Is it possible for me to swap that drive directly into my failing TiVo 2, and then do a "Clear & Delete' or maybe one of the "TiVo kickstart" routines, and have it actually work?

    Any information; any thoughts.
    Greatly appreciated.
    Thanks.

Nope - not if the two units aren't the same model. They have different OS versions, so the drive won't boot.
    Been here a long time . . .

        I'm wondering something similar.

I have a TiVo Series 2 model TCD24004A. I'd like to replace the hard drive (it's been making a ton of noise recently). Can I simply take a hard drive from another 24004A and replace my old one with that? I don't have any recorded shows I need saved, so I don't mind erasing.

And if that works, would other model TiVos also work? Such as the 240040, 240080, 24008A, 540040, 540080, 540140 etc...

        Thanks.

Drive in 240-series machines are interchangeable, but you will lose all programming and settings if you move from one to another. You cannot move between a 240 and 540 machine.
