  • Replaced HD - Failure while configuring

I've just replaced the failed HD on a Series 2 machine. On Setup now, I can't get connected through my wireless network. I get to the "Connecting" phase where it seems to "negotiate" okay but then times-out and says "Failed while configuring". It says "The DVR encountered an unrecoverable error (N18)".

I've unplugged and restarted the TIVO multiple times, unplugged and restarted the wireless router, and rebooted the computer - none of which has helped.

I have a D-Link DIR-625 wireless router that otherwise seems to be working okay. Both it and the wireless USB adapter were working fine with the TIVO before the hard drive replacement. I've checked the IP address, subnet mask, gateway default, etc and all appear to be correct.

    What next?

Is it a TiVo-brand wifi adapter, or something else?

Yes, it's the 80gb replacement for TiVo model #540040.

Well, this really does sound like a hard drive problem to me, so email us at [email protected] and we can figure out how to get the drive swapped out.

Actually, I just tried connecting using phone line and it seems to have worked okay. I'll try changing the setup to the wireless network tomorrow evening and let you know whether it works or not. (It's 11:10 pm here now and I'll be at work all day tomorrow, so won't have a chance to check until tomorrow night.) Thanks (so far) for your help!

OK - sounds good. I will say that I'm not too optimistic, but maybe somehow it'll do the trick.

Looks as though it's working okay with the wireless network now! I'll repost if I find out otherwise. Thanks again...

OK - so you can force a connection over WiFi and it's totally fine?
