  • Channels through cablebox?

    Hey there,

    Complete newbie to this forum as you can see.. I've owned a Series 2 dualtuner for about 2 years I think...love it, works great... put a second hard drive in which I bought from WeaKnees. At any rate, my in-law's just purchased a Series 2 dual tuner for Christmas...just got around to installing it for them yesterday and am having some problems.

    Bottom line is that all of the basic cable/analog channels seem to be working fine, but nothing going through the cable box is working. By the way, cablebox is a Motorola DCT 2224. Cable provider is Comcast.

    Here's the setup:

    From the wall -> IN_Splitter
    OUT_Splitter -> RF_IN_Cablebox
    OUT_Splitter -> RF_IN_Tivo
    OUT_Composite_Cablebox -> IN_Composite_Tivo
    OUT_Composite_Tivo -> IN_Composite_TV
    OUT_Composite_Tivo -> IN_Composite_VCR/DVD Combo
    OUT_RFOut_VCR/DVD -> IN_AntennaIn_TV

    As I say channel 2, 4, 7, etc work fine. But any channel labeled "BOX" does not seem to work. Is it "simply" that the Tivo remote is having problems changing the channel of the cablebox? The cablebox looks like it has a serial input but that didn't work for me (I imagine Comcast doesn't want me using Tivo and that's why they disable this??) Changed the setup to use the IR blaster and connected that....same result. :/

    Under System Status, I see Program Source as "Cable Box, IR".

    Any ideas? Is this just some sort of remote control setting to get the IR blaster configured correctly? And if so, where do I put that in?

    Thanks for any help!

    Regards,

    - Dave

    I'd suggest that you go through setup again. I'd also suggest that you get a standard definition cable box from the cable company.

      Jeff,

      I already ran the Guided setup again, no luck... Also, why is this model cablebox non-standard?

      Thanks,

        It's not "not-standard" in the way you are thinking. I am talking high definition vs STANDARD definition TV....you should be using a standard definition cable box.

        Also, if you connect your cable from the wall directly to your TV, can you tune any stations using the TV's internal tuner?
