Hi,
I have a Samsung DirecTV TiVo SIR-S4040R. About 3 or 4 years ago, I cancelled my DirecTV service and pulled the hardrive out of this DVR to use as an external hardrive in order to save some cash in purchasing a new drive. I no longer need this external drive anymore and would like to reinstall this original drive back into my DVR since I'd like to give it to a friend who has DirecTV service.
Is there software I can download that will allow me to reinstall the original TiVo OS? I'm not looking to upgrade the drive and prefer not to spend much money. DVRUPGRADE.COM sells instacake for just under $20 but requires the purchase of a bigger hardrive in order to install the software. Weaknees charges $55 to reinstall the software if I send out my drive.
Are there cheaper DIY options that can save me some money? I appreciate any help in advance. Thanks!
