Picture turns pinkish purple or black and blank

This has been happening with my Directv HR21-700 1TB Receiver. If I turn it off and on sometimes it corrects and sometimes it doesn't, but usually it's fine the nect day till the problem reccurs. All connections (amp, Directv receiver, TV, DVD player/burner) are HDMI. Any Idea what's wrong, and about the fix for it?

First troubleshooting step would be to pull the amp out of the signal path. Try going direct from the DVR to the TV and see what you get.
