  • Installed weaKnees drive and TiVo is now continually restarting

    Hello all,

I just received my weaKnees 320gb upgrade drive and I am installing it into a TiVo TCD540040. The installation instructions (#31) were very straight forward, but ran into a problem. After everything was installed, I would see the “yellow and black Welcome! Powering up…” screen, but it would power cycle/restart about every 50 seconds. It would never go past the “yellow and black Welcome! Powering up…” screen. I even left it that way for 60 minutes and it continually restarted.

I read the trouble shooting links which indicated that it was either a hard drive failure or power supply failure.

I re-installed the original drive and everything worked perfectly.

Question: is there anything that I am not doing right?

Thanks for all the all input :-)

You probably should email us directly so that we can check your order and confirm that you ordered the correct drive. Also, be sure that you are using the drive cable we sent to you and not the one that was in the TiVo.

Have you tried reconnecting all of the new parts, also?

Yes, I have tried installing/reinstalling several times and it keeps power cycling about every 50 seconds. I drop the (original) old one in and turns on like normal.

I did notice that the original drive did have a jumper on the “cable select”. This new drive does not have a jumper on it. The drive claims that it does not need it. Could that be playing into this at all?

You may have ordered for the wrong model number. Are you sure it's a TCD540040? Can you check your original order email and make sure that states the same model number?
