  • Lost audio when playing Revision3 programs?

I've been having an issue with my S2 Pioneer 810 Tivo for the past few months. On occasion I lose all audio when starting to view downloaded video programs from Revision3. (Diggnation, Tekzilla, DiggReel, etc)

All audio is restored after a reboot. Programs recorded during these times of audio loss, will play back perfectly after reboot. So audio in seems to be working, just audio out gets mucked up. Is this a hardware failure?

I haven't noticed losing any audio problems when attempting to watch other programs recorded from cableTV. Has anyone else had this issue? Current software version is 9.3.2b-01-2-275.

    Any help would be appreciated.

We've seen that problem be related to a failing power supply, but not in that model, specifically. Series1 units have a history of exactly this symptom, though, and a replacement power supply fixes it. So you might try that. We have them here:

I'm having the same sound loss program on the Pioneer DVR-57h

I've finally found someone with the same problem as me. I have a Pioneer DVR-57h and it does the same thing but it seems to happen with downloaded programs period. I've had it happen mostly on Revision 3 downloads but its happened on NY Times downloads a couple of times as well. As the previous poster stated the system loses all sound. But the weird thing is even though there is no sound as the previous poster mentioned everything is recorded perfectly. Everything is recorded with sound. I've been able to get the sound to return a couple of times by putting the unit in sleep mode and then hitting the Tivo button or Live TV but that rarely works. The sure fix is to reboot the system. I thought it was because I had upgraded my hard drive. I thought maybe the drive was failing? But you guys think its a power supply problem? I thought about that but it only loses sound on downloaded programs. On regular recorded programs and on the extra broadband features I can watch programs all day and listen to music and play games all day without losing sound so why does the Pioneer prefer to lose sound on downloaded programs? Sorry if I'm blabbing. Just excited to finally find someon else with the same problem as me. Even though we have different models they're in the same family. Thanks for the help!

Those two units (810H and 57H) are almost identical, internally, so a problem with one is very comparable to a problem with another.

I'm not sure I'd say I "think" it's a power supply problem, just that that's my best hope for a fix at a reasonable price. If it's not that, it's likely a motherboard issue.

I really can't see why downloaded programs are different, except maybe they're compressed with a different algorithm, and maybe that's where the problem is, either in the software (hard drive) or in a chip (motherboard). Really hard to know, but if you have the original hard drive, have you tried swapping back to that to see if the problem continues?

No I haven't tried the original drive yet. I was just trying to find out a possible cause before I swapped the drives (the original drive still has the original os installed so I would have to download the update via phoneline bc I couldn't get the tivo wireless adapter to work b4 the update and then download the programs etc. I made sure I kept just the basic bare drive in case anything goes wrong I can start from scratch lol) bc that process is easily going to take a couple of hours or more. But I may go ahead and bite the bullet and try it. I'm going to check out the power supplies you guys have as well. Thanks!

You can always try using a dialing prefix of:

            ,#401

and that may make the unit connect via ethernet.

Wow, thought I was alone on this issue. Not that I'm any kind of expert, but the power supply issue sounds possible. Never thought of that as the culprit. I was on the side of the algorithm (specific to Rev3) issue, causing problems with playback.

jjennings if you do end up replacing the power supply, please post back your results.

As a side note - I as well upgraded my hard drive. Not sure how much that is an issue, as everything else works perfectly.

              Thanks

Alright so here's another piece of info. Bigdog you can say if you notice the same thing or not but I seem to lose sound the most when I delete one Revision 3 program and play another immediately after that. I lost sound 4 times today. I had 10 episodes of Tekzilla on my hard drive. I watched and deleted the first couple of episodes fine but after that everytime I deleted one of the tek mini episodes and watched another one I would lose sound. After the 4th time I got tired of rebooting so I stopped watching Revision 3 stuff (as we all know the Pioneer takes forever to reboot) So I'm curious as to if the circumstances are the same for other people or not and whether or not this may add some helpful info to the topic. For some reason the TiVo hates it when I delete one tekzilla and immediately watch another one.....As for the original hard drive I still haven't put it in yet. Been busy at work. And I will definitely post results when I get a new power supply but unfortunately that probably won't be until January bc I still have alot of Christmas shopping to do.....but if anyone else replaces their power supply or hd first then please let us know....oh and see if you can recreate the problem bigdog. Have 10 episodes of a Revision3 program in the now playing list. watch them and delete them and then play another one immediately afterwards and see if you lose sound.....just wanted to add that info. thanks guys

Yes, I've noticed the same thing. The loss of sound usually happens after deleting one show and going directly to the next. I've experimented with waiting about 10 seconds between button pushes, and have had mixed results. Sometimes it helps. And for the most part it happens with Tekzilla for me too. But have had other programs do the same thing. But I'm not sure if I watched a Tekzilla episode first. Hmmm...
