Whoops. I was taking out a defective power supply from my Hughes HDVR2, and when gaining leverage to work it out of the plastic tabs heard a slight crumble under where my fingers were pressing. After looking closely I saw that I cracked one of the surface mount capacitors (or at least I think it's a capacitor). It was one adjacent to the motherboard power cable connector. The far and near photos give a picture of its location and condition.
I powered it up (using an alternate power supply for the hard drive) and the Tivo still worked. My question is - what do the experts recommend that I do? Ride it out until it stops working? Or try to replace that component?
Thanks!
