  • no audio except TiVo sound effects (reboot doesn't help)

I have a Sony SVR-2000. It stopped outputting audio from all programs (both live and recorded, including a DVD input). However, it still outputs the TiVo sound effects.

I am aware of the "no audio, except TiVo sounds, until reboot and then audio is ok including recorded shows" problem that is related to local commercials with bad audio quality.

That problem was fixable with a reboot. When I reboot (I tried both soft reboot and hard reboot), it doesn't help. So, I have a different problem.

    Any ideas?

    Thanks,

    Sounds like a motherboard issue.

It's something we can fix as part of our flat fee repair program:

That would only be worthwhile if you have TiVo Product Lifetime Service on the Sony.

Yes, it has TiVo Product Lifetime Service. And the hard drive has already been upgraded. So, I'd like to fix it if possible.

If the problem is the motherboard, is it possible to figure out which chip it is? Would the chip be available for purchase? (I'm both curious and a cheapskate.) If not, then your flat fee repair program sounds like the best bet.

      Thanks for your help!

Sorry to say, but we don't sell the chips, and our techs really can't help you identify problematic surface mount components.
