  • It all works fine in my head...

Hello. I have an odd question for you. I purchased a used Tivo off of Ebay, hooked it up and found the it was locked on the 'Powering up' screen. Upon looking at the site, I understand that the unit's hard drive is shot. Before purchase a replacement, I want to know if the following 2 situations will work.
Situation 1: Can the unit be used as a 'delay system' to bridge between a radio signal (via audio input) to better sync radio transmissions and satellite sports programming.
Situation 2: Hooking a surveillance camera to the A/V inputs and using it as a recorder for my security camera.
Is a subscription needed for either situation.
Thanks for your time and wisdom!

#1 is really tough, probably not even doable.

#2 is definitely possible via manual time and date recordings.

Without a model number, I can't tell you if you need a subscription or not.

Hello Michael! Thanks for the response. The model number on the back of the unit is TCD540040. I was wondering about the audio recording because I found this (http://www.scannermaster.com/DelayPlay_p/01-561344.htm) and thought that the principal would be the same. If the hard drive is indeed bad, do I need one from Weaknees for that unit or will a drive from a HR10-250 (a Directv Tivo unit) work. I have 2 of thos laying around and would love to put them to use somehow. Thanks again for your time.

You'd need a new drive - a drive from the HR10-250 has the wrong OS on it. Drives are here:

You'd have to fake the TiVo into reading that audio input, and I don't even know if you can with no associated video input.

Further, you'll definitely need a subscription to do any of this with a TCD540040.
