I have two DirecTiVo HDVR2's that are presently both degraded to single tuner operation, after working with both tuners for years. On the "Satellite Signal Strength" screen on BOTH receivers, the second tuner on each rapidly fluctuates between 0 and 85-95% signal on all three satellites. On the two working #1 tuners, the signal strength is steady and 85-95% on all three satellites.
I have reluctantly concluded that the LNB/Multiswitch on the dish feed arm is malfunctioning. The dish is an original Phase III oval dish with a 3LNB feed and it has been in place about 6 years.
My questions:
1) Is there any other failure that may be affecting the second tuner on BOTH my HDVR2 receivers?
2) Can I simply replace the 3LNB feed with another without having to re-aim the dish itself? (I don't own the signal strength meter the original dish installer used.) (I would also have to rent a ladder longer than I own.)
3) Would it be better to pay someone replace the existing dish and feed with a new 5LNB setup? (I do not presently own any HD receivers, I get HD off a rooftop antenna only.)
Thanks in advance.
