  • Series 2 Service Data Issue

My Series 2 TiVo's HDD died about a year ago, and contacting TiVo did not help. They would only send me a new Series 2 20GB for $150 and not transfer my Lifetime Subscription.

So I found this site and ordered and installed a TiVo 230040 TiVo Upgrade Kit: Replace with one 160gb hard drive.

Upon receiving the shipment, I promptly opened the package, and installed the new HDD. At the time, I did not have a traditional landline so I took my TiVo to my office to run initial setup.

I thought everything was good upon returning, but quickly found out that the TiVo would not update program information. I was forced to repeat guided setup to get a fresh two weeks worth of programming info.

I have a wireless network at home and have had no issues in getting the TiVo to connect. My other Series 2 has not experienced any of these issues.

I tried contacting TiVo directly, and the rep informed me that this particular TiVo had been attempting to download some data but never finished it...she said it had been trying for months. She then questioned why I had a third party HDD, and told me she could not help any further.

SO this weekend, after a year of these issues, I cleared everything from the TiVo with the "new" HDD. Since I now have a traditional landline, I connected the phone line and did initial setup again. I have since forced 4 connections to the TiVo service, and so far no change on the service data download section of system information.

Is it possible that the HDD I received was not properly configured? Did I forget to do something to this new HDD prior to installation?

This sounds like the wrong TiVo OS for the model TiVo you have. Can you confirm the exact model of the TiVo, and then email us with that and your order number?
    Been here a long time . . .

I wonder what the change in TiVo Service Level means. Also, does it matter if the Manufacturer Brand is Comcast on this particular TiVo when my other Series 2 is TiVo?

I can tell you this. The Comcast brand Tivo is really an AT&T branded TiVo with a 130 prefix, not a 240 prefix. This I based on my experience with two AT&T units and two TiVo units. So, I think you are using the wrong image if I had to guess. But I could be wrong.

TiVo or ATT 40hr TCD130040 Stdalone

          TiVo 40hr TCD240040 Standalone

Thanks for the info. And I think that goes along with the previous post by WK-Michael who suspected it was the wrong Tivo OS.

I hope to hear back soon from WK so I can see what my options are, and hopefully I didn't wait too long to receive some help on this.

Yeah, the problem appears to be this: You have a TiVo service number starting with 240, which is consistent with your model (TCD24008A).

However, you ordered a kit for a TCD230040, which has different TiVo software.

You need to have your drive reloaded with the proper software; you should contact us via email for help.

Thanks for the follow-up. I was able to exchange a few emails last night and came to the same conclusion. My fault there...I removed the HDD last night and Fedex'ed this afternoon.

Looking forward to the reformatted drive and less hassle!
