  • T2500 Pic & Unit Freezes - must unplug

I have not seen this exact thread before (sorry if it exists)
T2500 freezes. picture displayed does not change. controls do not work, does not record, remote does not work - VERY RARELY, I can see the yellow light acknowledge a command, but it does nothing - usually yellow light does NOT respond to pressing the remote. sometimes record light is on, sometimes off. I have replaced the power supply (from WeaKnees) - still have problem. USB still sending power. This is on an expensive 1500 watt UPS, which has PLENTY of unused power. NO artifacts, nor strange noises. It either works, or it is frozen. It can freeze while viewing, recording, or not doing anything that I've asked (ie., not recording, I am not viewing anything - of course TiVo is always viewing some channel or another). I am an electrical engineer / computer professional. I've worked extensively with hard drives for the last 9 years. I find it hard to believe that this can be a hard drive problem, as I've never seen drives work/fail/work/fail/.... Unplugging the USB connection does NOT help. I am on Time-Warner (Raleigh, NC) cable, (NO cable box) viewing / recording analog stations. NONE of my other two (real) TiVo's have a problem. Unit does not seem hot (to the touch). I have replaced the USB to Ethernet adapter, wich is then a WIRED connection to a Gigiabit router/switch that appears to have no problems. I use IP to get TiVo information. Vonage is also on this Ethernet Router/switch. picture mode is 4x3. I get no known error messages/warnings. Suggestions?

Foo - I didn't realize KickStart meant turn on diagnostics. a Kickstart 57 found serious file format problems, and is attempting to fix them. I'll report back, Thanks.
