  • Digital Cable Box won't talk to TiVo

A couple of days ago I hooked up my digital cable converter box from Comcast, but cannot get it to talk with my Series 2-Pioneer 810H DVR to record. I've called TiVo, Comcast, and Pioneer, and we all continue to change the cables around to different hookups. I know the cable box will talk to the TV, and I can record shows on the TiVo if I hook the TiVo directly to the cable from the wall. The problem with that is that without the cable box, I only get up to channel 29. When the incoming cable goes to the cable box with the coax connection and the composite cables go from the cable box to the TiVo, it will not record. The TiVo tech support have had me go through Guided Setup several times. When we get to the "Do you see a video in the background" page, it's black. It asks, "Is the cable box on?" Answer, "Yes." Second choice is to change channels with the Comcast remote. The remote won't change channels. Tech Support now tells me I need a new TiVo, but that doesn't make sense because I can record if I don't run the cable through the cable box. Comcast says it's a TiVo problem because when the cable box is hooked directly to the TV, I can see the picture. Pioneer says it's a TiVo problem. Help!

It is possible that the TiVo can't control that model of cable box. What is the exact model of cable box? Did anyone look that up to try to find the right remote code?

Also, the issue of not seeing video in the background during that step of Guided Setup is important, but it's not paramount. We've occasionally seen the black screen there for strange reasons that resolve when setup is completed.
    Been here a long time . . .
