I just installed a TIVO updgrade kit for my DSR708, replacing the old drive with a 160 gb drive. The old drive was frequently showing symptoms of drive failure, but still works for a day or so before needing to be rebooted.
The upgrade installation went ok, thanks for good instructions. However, the TIVO will not go beyond the initial 'powering up' grey screen. I checked to make sure the jumper was on the adapter unit to the new drive ok. I also rechecked the power and IDE cables for good connections.
I put the old drive back in, and it is working as well as before, so it appears the new drive / adapter is not working correctly.
