I am looking for advice and I am getting some conflicting and confusing information.
I want to switch to the Directv. Not because it is cheaper but for the NFL package. I use to split it with a buddy but his wife put the squash on that deal this year or so I was told. They are offering that 5months deal and after checking into it the costs the same as I am paying for cable.
I currently have cable using cable cards and coax.
I have two Tivos,
HD Tivo with the cable cards go in the front. Lifetime sub
Old Series one that has upgrades. Yearly sub
I am looking to get 5 tvs on DirecTV.
1 HD DVR (just because)
2 HD Receivers
2 Standard Tuners
on that five months premium deal being offered right now.
This is what I think is the case
I can hook the HD Tivo up to the direct tv tuner
Video viewable via Coax, component, S-Vid or RCA and can record
Video viewable via HDMI but no record.
Change the channels with IR setup. I think this came with the unit and is in my cables box in the garage. Slow and flakey from what I understand.
OR
I could get this USB TV Translater at patersontech.com and the TIVO Serial Cable more money but maybe less flakey
I can get Channel information for my season passes and what not.
I LOSE THE DUAL RECORD FEATURE. This is a total drag if true.
I can hook my my Series 1 Tivo up to the direct TV Tuner.
Video is viewable via Coax, S-Video and RCA and can record.
Channel changing is only possible via IR setup. There is not serial connection I can see on the box so I suspect the IR setup is the only way to make it work.
I can get the Channel information for season pass and what not.
This Tivo is not dual tuner or HD.
Does all this sound correct?
Are there better options for channel changing the DirecTV receivers?
Is the dual tuner Tivo now a single?
I can not record HD on the HDTivo via HDMI?
Can I record HD video via the component connections?
Can I get the TV guide information for both Tivos?
Are there is mods to get these Tivos to be more compatible with DirecTV?
Any advice appreciated?
Thanks up front.
