  • Still Freezing

My Tivo kept freezing up so I assumed the hard drive must be going bad. I just replaced my DirctvTivo R10 with a replacement 80GB hard drive. The hard drive I received had a 2005 date stamped on the outside which seemed a bit odd. None the less I replaced the drive following the instructions to the letter and all went well for a couple of days. When I fired up the Tivo it came back alive with no problems.

Now that a few days have passed I find that my Tivo is still freezing up. I still have an image on the screen and it's as if someone hit the pause button but there is no response from the Tivo unless I re-boot it. Any suggestions about what else could be wrong? I'm feeling remorseful that I may have just wasted money.

First, we do take returns within 30 days, so if your TiVo has problems that are not drive-related, you can return the drive.

Alternatively, if you want the drive tested, you can contact us through the website and arrange to have us test the drive.

My situation is/was exactly as yours, exact same symptoms. I hooked my Tivo up to a battery backup UPS I wasn't using, and no more freezing, at least for the last week. My theory is that the Tivo power supply may be going, and causing the freezing responsive to line voltage fluctuations, which the UPS is eliminating. I might buy a new power supply for it in the future. I'm using the same Tivo unit as you are as well.
