I recently installed an older DirecTV Tivo unit an RCA 40 that had ver 3.1 software. I tried for 8 hours to get the software updated and had one problem after another. Phone line problems, then if it was successful after two hours on the phone it said it had problems with the data. Anyway to force it or any suggestions?

If it is having problems storing the downloaded data on the drive, it's unlikely to be able to complete the update ever without a new drive.

Started Processing Once
Well I think the hard drive should be okay since the unit is technically new, just not updated. At one point the update was processing correctly but then the power went out and since then haven't got a clean download.Comment

Well, it may have been corrupted and/or damaged in the power outage. My guess is still that, while new, the drive is bad. We've certainly seen drives fail out of the box, and work out of the box and then fail a few weeks later.Been here a long time . . .Comment
