New unit old hard drive

Hello. I just had to replace my receiver(Hughes SD-DVR40) and want to use my existing hard drive, that I recently upgraded in my old DVR40 to 160gb, in the new unit. Is there anyway to save my recordings or is the delete everything and reset the only option?

Is there anyway to copy the saved recordings to a separate hard drive then reset my drive to the new unit then copy my shows back onto the drive?

With DirecTV units, there's just no way to do this.

With non-DirecTV units, you could copy the shows to a PC or Mac, swap out the drives, do the clear and delete, and copy the shows back. But DirecTV units don't have that capability.
