    New hard drive - now can't make a call

    Replaced a bad hard drive in a Directv Philips DSR708. Probably the third time I've replaced a drive, I'm an old hand at this. New drive comes up, but I can't record anything because it says I must make a call. No local channels either.

    Set it up, make a test call, all is well, it succeeds. Try the real call but after connecting it stops in the middle of the call with "Call interrupted". Repeated attempts with no luck.

    So now I have a boat anchor DVR. Wife not happy.

    Tried forcing the phone number, same result. Tried "#319" as i saw in another post, and I get "modem not responding"

    Any ideas?

    That code is for an external modem. You should be using this:

    ,#096,,XXXXXXXX

    Replace the Xs with the number you want the TiVo to dial, as you would dial it on your phone.

      working now, problem fixed itself.

      thanks, didn't realize that required an external modem

      I had also tried the #096 code, and while it seemed to dial properly, the call ended with the same "call interuppted"

      Did a full reset and erase. Tried the call twice more with the same results.
      Finally in one last fit of desperation ran the call again, it dialed in and completed the call in seconds. There must have been some sort of timeout problem with directv, because when it worked the call was short. When it failed it was 5 minutes long.

      So if anyone else has this problem, just keep trying the call and it may eventually work.
