    SVR 2000 Sony Stuttering

    Hi All:

    I did the weaknees upgrade about a year ago with a new drive.

    Now the unit is stuttering.

    Do I have to do the patch all over again or is there some other cure that is less labor intensive?

    I already rebooted this thing a couple of times.

      Assuming I have to replace the drive I have some questions, since I believe this is the second or third drive to fail in about 3 years.

      My questions are:

      Is there a chance that this machine is "eating" drives?

      How much time should I be getting on a drive before it burns up?

      Do you think it is a waste of time to keep putting drives in this machine?

        You should get a UPS If you don't have one, see:

        UPS for TiVo

        It is also possible that you have a short that is killing drives over time. Environmental factors can also decrease drive life (eg. moving the unit while it's on, excessive heat, smoke, etc.).
