    Stuck on Cleaning and Deleting

    I have a DSR-704 that I expanded a while back. Everything was good until the tuner started going out. My thought was to get a used unit (Got RCA DVR40) and clean the programming, then copy everything from that drive to a bigger drive. I powered up the new unit, it looked OK, so I did a clear all settings. I let it run several hours, and it didn't finish. I rebooted, and it goes directly to that screen. It's been running for 6 hours with the red light going on and off every second or so. I thought it was only supposed to last an hour.

    Looks like I can't use my other drive since it is a different model. I didn't mind losing the programming, but I've read that it won't work. Any ideas?

    I'd let it go a few hours longer to be sure, but if it doesn't come out of it, you might have a bad drive.

      I let it go overnight, but still doing the same thing... the drive seemed to be OK when I got it. It booted and I could see some previously recorded programs. I just wanted a fresh start. Guess I should have just done backup | restore without saving the program data and I'd have been fine... I think I have access to another DVR40 harddrive. I should be able to expand that to the 500 gig, put in the 500, then do a clear all and it should work, right?

            Had a few minutes to give it a shot. Old DVR40 drive is dead. One I had was corrupted, but I gave it a shot copying to my 500 Gig anyway. It powers up, gets the almost there message, then green severe error occured. Is there any way to get a backup of the 6.4 TIVO Software? I'm not looking for hacks or anything else, just a drive image of a base DVR40 that I can restore and expand.

                I figured it was just easier to order a new drive from you instead of shipping one in and waiting... Order is in as of this morning.
