  • Seagate Db35.3 Mfstools problem

I just got a Seagate Db35.3 160gb hd to replace the magnetic data 120gb hd that has been causing me problems. I'm using the Hinsdale how-to and following it to the letter, but the mfstools is only seeing my new seagate drive as 137gb and the the mfstools is telling me the backup target isn't big enough. What am I doing wrong, and how do I fix it? Thanks in advance. You guys rock!

Well, you've got two things going on.

1 - You're booted into an older Linux kernel that can only see 137 GB of any one drive. In fact, this may be right for your situation. Older units need that.

2 - You may be trying to re-expand an already-expanded A drive. Try it without the 'x' in there, and see if that does the trick.

I have the hughes sd40 that I had upgraded to a 120gb magnetic data drive a few weeks ago(I know now MD drives are problematic) Is there no way to get the full 160gb from the seagate? I am trying to retain all of my season passes and all of my recorded shows.

To get all of the space on the new drive, you'd need to start over using the 40 GB drive as the source.

And you'll also need a newer boot CD with the newer Linux kernel.
