  • Green Screen but No Error Message - Power Supply?

I have a Series 3 TiVo. At odd timespans, a week to two or three days, my unit which works fine in the interim goes to a green screen. However, I don't have the error message.

Rebooting works fine and the unit performs great for another period of time. I'd think it was the hard drive diagnosis, listed on these boards, EXCEPT that when I go into the To Do List "View Recorded History" to see why a program didn't record, it says, "This program was not recorded becasue the power was lost or the TiVo Digital Media Recorder was unplugged."

The fan sounds like it's working fine.

Should I replace the hard drive? The power unit? Something else?

That's almost definitely a hard drive problem. A "replace" kit for your model should fix the problem:

Thanks. Will do. I have a second Series 3 hooked to the same TV. It started exhibiting almost identical issues at almost the same time.

Two units were purchased from different sources at different times.

Coincidence? Or, something else I should be looking at so that my replacement equipment doesn't end up with the same issues?

I'd guess, power issues. Do you have the units on a UPS? We highly recommend that. More info is here:

Would the newer model have any advantages?

          $53.29

I'm hearing you say this would UPS would be my first step to solve power issues rather than replacing the power switch. Right?

No reason not to get that one.

What's the "power switch?" The power supply? That wouldn't likely do too much. But you will need new drives, since it sounds like the damage is done.

Replaced the hard drive and ran the power for one of the units to a new source. Still getting the periodic green screen, sometimes after two weeks, sometimes after one day.

So far, I can reboot. However, I never know when this is going to happen so I can't rely on this TiVo, which is the only one to get the HD channels.

I've put it on a Surge Protector and also have full house surge protection from my power company.

I've removed all other equipment from the power on that wall except the TV.

Where do I go from here? Replace the power unit within the Series 3? Replace something else?

Is the hard drive from us? Or did you copy the old hard drive over?
